{Supt. Ellen McHenry}
Superintendent, Ellen J. McHenry M.Ed
A lifelong educator and student – I began my career in education at an early age by running a “summer school” for neighborhood children, with the oversight and direction of my mom, and my first “staff” my two younger sisters. That experience sowed the seeds for my passion for education. I knew from that time that I wanted to be an educator. I worked toward that goal in high school by doing volunteer work in a local elementary school and serving as President of Future Teachers of America. I went on to college at the State University of NY College at Geneseo where I majored in Elementary and Special Education. My interest in special education was sparked by a close relationship with my autistic cousin, Dan. After completing by BS in Education I started my teaching career as a VISTA volunteer in Philadelphia, Mississippi where I taught GED/Adult Education. After VISTA I spent several years teaching special education in the private sector, started a community nursery school in upstate NY and completed my Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities. After moving to New Jersey I began my public school career in Burlington Township, teaching special education. From teaching I moved Child Study Team work as a Learning Disability Teacher-Consultant. I completed more graduate work at Rutgers and was promoted to a position as Supervisor of Special Education and Elementary Education, and Visual and Performing Arts in Burlington Township. In 2002 I left Burlington Township to join the Chesterfield faculty as a Supervisor/LDT-C. While at Chesterfield I returned to school for more graduate work in Educational Leadership, completing the Foundations for Educational Administration EXCEL (Expedited Certificate for Educational Leadership) program in July 2007. I was thrilled to accept the position of Superintendent of Chesterfield Township Elementary School in November of 2008. The past two years have been challenging and exciting, particularly with all of the ups and downs of the new school in progress. What a great start to 2011 to move into our new beautiful, state of the art building and host a great Ribbon Cutting/Dedication Celebration! We have many more good things in store this year....
Please stay tuned!
