DISTRICT PROGRAMS

Chesterfield Elementary School
Chesterfield’s philosophy toward special education programming is in keeping with federal and state mandates to provide educational services in the least restrictive environment. We strive to educate our students who have special educational needs in an inclusive setting. Our resource center teachers work collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide support services within the general classroom setting as well as in a small group or individualized basis in the resource center. Services are determined on an individual basis and provided in accordance with each child’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP).

PALS - Parents for All Learning Styles, established March 2007 to provide feedback to the district about special education programs and services.  General membership meeting October 23, 2007, open to all parents.  Current information will be posted in the monthly newsletters.

Pre-school Disabled Programs
Chesterfield participates in the Early Bird program, an educational consortium designed to provide services for children eligible as pre-school disabled who reside in the northern part of Burlington County. Students who attend Early Bird classes participate in a half-day school program in which educational services as well as related services of speech language therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy are provided according to the child’s needs. Early Bird programs serve children between the ages of 3 and 5 years.  The Early Bird program is housed in Mansfield at the John Hydock School.

CHILD FIND
Any child is eligible for screening and/or evaluation through the Chesterfield Child Study Team if he/she is a resident of Chesterfield Township and between the ages of 3 years and 4 years, 11 months before October 1st. A pre-school evaluation consists of assessment of the child’s general development in the areas of cognitive development, readiness skills, speech, language, motor coordination, social skills, vision and hearing. If you have concerns about your pre-school child’s development contact the Child Study Team office at 609-298-3027.

Early Intervention Services
The Department of Health, Special Child Health Services of Burlington County provides programs and services for infants and toddlers from birth through 2 years, 11 months of age who have disabilities. Families of children who may require early intervention services should contact the Burlington County Case Management Unit at 609-267-1950.
