SCHOOL BULLETIN BOARD

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

The Chesterfield Township School District is an Affirmative Action/Equal Educational School District and Employer. If any parent/guardian, student, or other person feels that he or she or any other person is being or has been discriminated against because of race, color, creed, religion, sex, ancestry, national origin, socioeconomic status or handicap, such discrimination should be reported immediately to the following school district officer: Mrs. Ellen McHenry.

ABSENCES

If your child is going to be absent from school due to illness, you must call the school office to report that your child will not be present in school. Please call the main office where your child is attending. In order for the absence to be excused, you must also send a note into school the day of their return, stating that your child was ill. If a child is absent for 5 days or more consecutive days, you must supply a doctor’s note in order for the absences to be excused. Religious observances, bereavement days and required court appearances will also be excused with a note. Vacation days are unexcused absences.

BACKPACKS

Because of space limitations on our buses, it is necessary to restrict backpack size to a maximum of 15" wide by 18" long (approximately) and only the non-wheeled variety are permitted. Teachers have indicated that this style sufficiently meets their standards regarding the materials students transport between home and school.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES

Celebrating birthdays is a classroom tradition that everyone enjoys! Birthdays will be celebrated once a month for all birthdays in that classroom. Coordinate with the teacher. If you plan on sending in birthday treats, please remember that they must be peanut-free baked goods. Cupcakes, brownies or cookies are always a welcomed treat. Please keep within the nutritional guidelines. Sheet cakes are not recommended, due to the need for additional utensils. Also, if you are planning a party at home, only send invitations in to school if you will be inviting everyone (or just the same gender) in the class. If you are sending only to a few classmates, please distribute them by mail. (Class directories have all the names and addresses.) Thanks for your cooperation!

CHILD FIND

If you have concerns about your preschool child’s (ages 3-5 years) language, social or learning development, please call our Child Study Team office at 609-758-7363. Our Supervisor of Instruction/Learning Consultant, Ms Ellen McHenry; School Psychologist, Dr. Gino Sivieri; Learning Consultant, Ms Jeanine May; or Speech Pathologist, Ms Marian Rock will be happy to speak to you about your concerns and provide information about the Child Study Team evaluation process and possible services that may be provided for pre-school students.

If you have concerns about your infant or preschool child’s development (birth - 3 years) services may be available through New Jersey’s Early Intervention System. Please call PROJECT CHILD FIND at 1-800-322-8174 or Burlington County Early Intervention at 609-267-1950.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES

All electronic devices, including cell phones, IPods, GameBoy, etc., should be enjoyed at home.

KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2008 fill out the form or call the school to register for next year’s kindergarten classes. Our kindergarten registration breakfast and screenings are held in the spring for all our new enrollments and parents will be notified by mail at that time.

LOST AND FOUND

Any items found without any identification will be placed on the "Lost and Found" table located outside the office. Please check this table if your child is missing a lunchbox, coat, book-bag or other items. Keep in mind, anything left on the table at the end of the month is donated to a local charity.

OFFICE PHONE CALLS

As in the past, we are requesting that parents call the school office (298-6900) to report their child’s absence. You may call and leave a message on the school voice mail before office hours. If you call and leave a message, please be sure to state your child’s name, the date the child will be out, the reason for the absence and the child’s teacher.

Because of the hectic pace in the office during these times, we would appreciate it if no routine calls be made between the hours of 8:30 and 9:15 or 3:00 to 3:15. We would be happy to speak with you concerning anything else anytime between 9:15 and 3:00.

OPEN DOOR POLICY

The Chesterfield Township School faculty, staff and administration believe that a child’s parents and local community are an important and integral part of the total school program. The Superintendent and all other personnel will welcome any inquiries, questions or suggestions from any interested member of the community.

PARKING LOT PROCEDURE - ARRIVALS

Chesterfield Elementary School --

When dropping off your child in the morning, please stop your car at the walkway in the parking lot no earlier than 8:35 am. You will not need to get out of the car. A designated

adult will be available to assist with the children.

CB Lamb -

Parents must park in the school lot and walk children to the Main Entrance after 8:30 am. Please note that CB Lamb district students begin their day earlier than Chesterfield students and we must not get in the way of their bus arrivals. If your child arrives tardy (after 8:45) they must first report to the main office of CB Lamb and then report to the office in the Chesterfield Wing of the school All other doors of the school will be locked.

PARENT PICK-UP

Dismissal time is a very busy time of the day. In our continuing efforts to ensure that each child gets home safely and without incident, we ask that you use the following procedure:

If you know in advance that you will be picking up your child(ren) either early or at dismissal time, please fill-out the "Parent Pick-up Notification" form (attached) and send it to your child’s teacher on the morning of pick-up. If you choose to send a handwritten note, please include your child’s full name, teacher and time of pickup.

If an emergency arises and you need to pick up your child, either early or at the end of the day, please call the main office of your child's school(s) by 2:30. This way, the teacher will have your child packed-up and ready to go when you arrive. This will also alleviate any last minute changes at dismissal time. All students that are being picked-up are dismissed earlier than those riding buses.

Parents picking up their child at the day’s end from Chesterfield should report to the All-purpose room for sign out and remain in that location so that the children have a safe and expeditious passage. 1st and 2nd grade parents must park in the lot at CB Lamb and report to the Chesterfield entrance for sign out procedures.

If someone other than the parents is picking up a child, they must present an orange pick-up authorization card. Please sign and give out these cards to anyone authorized to pick up your child.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS

School district closings due to extreme weather conditions (snow, ice, high temperatures, etc.) or other emergencies will be announced on WCAU TV - Channel 10 and over radio stations WPST (97.5 FM),WKXW (101.5 FM), WBUD (12.60 AM) and KYW (1060 AM or online at www.kyw1060.com code #650). A school closing announcement will also be recorded on our voice mail. Please note that any closing information announcements for Chesterfield apply to the entire K-6 district.

VISITORS

In our continuing efforts to ensure the safety of our students, every visitor must sign in and obtain a visitor’s pass upon arrival. All teachers request that you never go directly to the classroom without being announced even to just drop off a lunch, forgotten items or to walk a student to class when they arrive late. Unexpected visits, especially in the morning, take the teacher’s attention away from the classroom an often disrupt routine procedures.
