•  In or Out?  principal

A way that we learn how to independently solve social conflicts is the  De-Bug System.  This step program is designed to help our youngsters learn the skills they need to help them deal with altercations independently, confidently, and in a nice way.  It goes like this:
    When someone is "bugging" you:
    1. Ignore
    2. Move away
    3. Use polite words
    4. Be firm
    5. Get an adult to help you

When a child approaches me to "tell" on someone, I ask them In or Out?  That means are you trying to get someone in trouble or out of danger.  If the answer is in, I will ask what step they have gotten up to and encourage them to move to the next step.
