What do I say when I call for information?

I am concerned that my child is presenting with learning difficulties and would like help determining if she or he needs an evaluation.

What response should I expect?

You will be guided in how to submit your request in writing and submitted to the Child Study Team. Upon receiving the written request, the Child Study Team has 20 days to hold a meeting with you (parents or guardians). At this meeting you and the team will discuss concerns in detail and determine if an evaluation is needed along with what the evaluation will include. Please note: if you do not receive a response with 72 hours of submitting a written request, please follow up via a phone call 609-298-3027 to ensure the department is in receipt of the request. We strive to be as expeditious in scheduling meetings as possible.

What if I wish to speak to another parent about the process?

We encourage parents to reach out to us for referrals to other parents willing to share their personal knowledge and experiences. Many parents find this helpful to speak to another parent that has more recently been facing the same concerns. We are happy to put you in touch with others that can share and provide insight. We also have a parent advisory group, SEPAG, that meets several times a year - all are welcome to attend.

To refer your child, please write a letter dated and signed and submit to CES at the address below.
